How to Measure
Chest Measurement
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms and over your shoulder blades.
Pro Tip: Keep the tape measure parallel to the ground and don't pull too tight.
Waist Measurement
Measure around your natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest part of your torso.
Pro Tip: Breathe normally and don't suck in your stomach for the most accurate measurement.
Length Measurement
For long coats, measure from the base of your neck to where you want the coat to end.
Pro Tip: Most long coats should fall at or just above the knee for the best proportions.
Sleeve Length
Measure from the shoulder seam down to where you want the sleeve to end.
Pro Tip: With your arm slightly bent, measure to your wrist bone for the most comfortable fit.
Fit Guide
Perfect Fit
The coat should fit comfortably across the shoulders and chest, with enough room to layer underneath.
Too Tight
If the coat pulls across the chest or shoulders, or you can't button it comfortably, try the next size up.
Too Loose
If there's excessive fabric bunching or the shoulders droop, consider going down a size.

Common sizing questions
- How do I measure for a coat at Oxfitter?
- Measure chest at the fullest point, natural waist, desired coat length from base of neck, and sleeve from shoulder seam to wrist with arm slightly bent.
- Should I size up for layering?
- Yes. If you wear thick knits or blazers under your coat, compare measurements with room to spare or choose one size up.
- Are thrifted coat sizes different?
- Often yes. Use the centimetre measurements listed on each archive product page rather than the size label alone.
